There has been an understanding that trauma is far more widespread than most of us mental health practitioners’ had imagined. While there has been much progress in this area in promoting trauma informed counselling, there remains often fear and lack of knowledge in how to assist the client in resolving it. In fact it is frequently said that the trauma itself will always be present but therapy, medication and CBT can assist in managing symptoms, often for life.
Trauma comes with a range of symptoms
- Being easily startled or frightened.
- Always being on guard for danger.
- Self-destructive behaviour, such as drinking too much or driving too fast.
- Trouble sleeping.
- Trouble concentrating.
- Irritability, angry outbursts or aggressive behaviour.
- Overwhelming guilt or shame.
- Flash backs,
- And is often at the root of mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, panic attack and low self-esteem.
Fortunately treatment is moving on in the medical model that advocate mindfulness practice and EMDR to assist in resolving trauma over one to two times per week for a total of 6-12 sessions on average.
What do I mean by resolution? No more symptoms.
This treatment has not yet been taken into the medical model but is available with EMI practitioners. Normally registered counsellors or hypnotherapists who are EMI trained.
EMI is both Trauma informed and utilises efficient, gentle trauma processing as well.
In 2016 EMI (Emotional Mind Integration) came into the mental health field of counsellors and hypnotherapists. Founded and trademarked by me Yildiz Sethi in 2016 and presented in my book Rapid Core Healing. EMI facilitates the resolution of complex trauma in an average of 3 sessions for each set of complex trauma.
EMI practitioners do not engage you in talking about or recording the details of your trauma as we know that this in itself frequently causes re-traumatisation. Instead we have a structured safe approach that uses your neural pathways from the symptom to the cause and assists you in defusing or resolving it at source.
